About Local Comic Shop

Local Comic Shop is a community-driven directory built to connect comic readers with brick-and-mortar comic shops.

The site begins with store information, but the community makes that information useful. Readers can submit missing stores, suggest corrections, add opening hours and review shops they have visited. Store owners can claim their listings and provide accurate information directly.

The more the community participates, the better every listing becomes — and the easier it is for someone to discover a shop they will love.

Built by People Who Visit Comic Shops

No directory can remain accurate on its own.

Comic shops open, close, relocate and change their hours. Their selections grow. New owners take over. Stores begin hosting events, expanding their manga sections, building gaming communities or offering services that were not previously listed.

The people most likely to notice those changes are the people who visit the stores.

Local Comic Shop gives readers and store owners a direct way to share what they know. Every accepted contribution improves the directory for the next person searching.

Small Contributions Make a Big Difference

You do not need to write a long review or know everything about a store to help. You can contribute by:

  • Submitting a comic shop that is missing
  • Correcting an address, phone number or website
  • Adding or updating store hours
  • Reporting a store that moved or closed
  • Sharing information about a shop's selection and specialties
  • Reviewing a store you have visited
  • Adding details about accessibility, events or amenities
  • Encouraging a store owner to claim their listing

One corrected address can prevent someone from driving to the wrong location. One thoughtful review can help a new reader choose a welcoming first shop. One store submission can introduce an entire community to a business they did not know existed.

Community Reviews

Community Reviews come from readers who have visited a store and want to share their experience.

A comic shop is more than its address and opening hours. Readers want to know whether it has a strong back-issue selection, welcomes new customers, carries manga or independent comics, hosts events, or provides a good place to play games and meet other fans.

Community Reviews help answer those questions through firsthand customer experiences. They are shown separately from our staff-written LCS Field Reviews and do not determine a store's LCS Score.

By sharing a specific and thoughtful review, visitors can help other readers find stores that match their interests while recognising shops for what they do well.

LCS Field Reviews

In addition to reviews from the community, Local Comic Shop conducts its own in-depth store evaluations. We call these LCS Field Reviews.

A Field Review is completed by a member of the Local Comic Shop team using a consistent set of criteria. It looks beyond a simple star rating to evaluate the parts of a store that matter to comic readers, including selection, organisation, staff knowledge, customer experience, accessibility, atmosphere and community involvement.

Each completed Field Review produces an LCS Score: an editorial score based on our structured review process.

The LCS Score is separate from customer ratings. Community Reviews reflect the individual experiences of readers, while an LCS Field Review represents an independent evaluation by our team. Store pages show the two separately so visitors can understand where each opinion came from.

Not every store has received a Field Review. Where one exists, it appears on that shop's own page with the score and the factors behind it.

Store Owners Are Part of the Community

Store owners and staff understand their shops better than anyone.

By claiming a listing, an owner can help ensure that customers see accurate information and understand what makes the store distinctive. Claimed listings can be improved with current details, photos, specialties, amenities and events.

There is no listing fee. A store's ability to participate does not depend on which distributor it uses or whether it purchases advertising.

Independent and Community Driven

Local Comic Shop is independently operated. It is not owned by a comics publisher, distributor, grading company or retail chain.

That independence allows the directory to include legitimate comic shops regardless of their industry relationships. It also means the quality of the site does not come from a single company maintaining a closed list. It comes from readers, collectors, reviewers, store owners and staff sharing what they know.

Community driven does not mean unmoderated. Store submissions, corrections and reports are reviewed before they become part of public listings. The goal is to combine broad participation with information people can trust.

Help Someone Find Their Shop

A great local comic shop can become part of a person's life.

It might be where they buy their first comic, start a pull list, discover an independent creator, complete a collection, attend their first signing, or meet people who share their interests.

By contributing to Local Comic Shop, you are not only updating a directory. You are helping readers find those places — and helping local stores remain visible to the communities around them.
